Other focusers?

Hi all,
I know there's Moonlite and Feathertouch, but what other decent focusers are available out there? I'm using a Gso rc 6 and I'm sure soon enough I'll be upgrading the stock focuser. Although I'd love one of the above, I wouldn't mind tossing up a few more options.
Cheers!

FLI? I use an Atlas on all my scopes. It's expensive and only has short travel but it has been very reliable, uses minimal back focus and carries a lot of weight. A PDF might be worth considering as a cheaper option.

Borg?
I use the non rotating helical focusers on all the spectroscopes.
Solid, rigid and very accurate...

Smile Focusers

Well there is also JMI with the Event Horizon focuser and Baader Planetarium with the steel track focuser.
If you found what you are looking for and want to sell your old focuser, I might be interested, PM me and send a pickture of you old focuser

There is another focuser from FLI called the DF-2 - the smaller brother of the PDF. Good for lighter loads but same issue - very small travel distance but you do the coarse focus with the stock focuser in place anyway.

Another choice is the RoboFocus and all the various ones made by JMI.

Thanks for everything reply guys. I probably should've been more clear in my original post, but the reason I was asking for more focuser brands is because the two I suggested were already pushing the upper end of what I'd spend.. So that rules any of the Fli focusers!
Anyways cheers Peter and Peter, I'll check out Jmi and Baader.
And Ken, can the Borg focusers be motorised at all?
Cheers again everyone!

Chris,
I don't know if there are commercial Borg/ Hutech motors, but a toothed belt drive (like Bert had for his camera lenses) should work well....

Feather Touch, Finger Lakes Instruments (Atlas), Moonlite, Optec (TCF-Si) are some.

I've had a TCF-Si (and a TCF-S before that) now for many years. It's very good, solidly built, has about 5,000 steps and is fast but takes up quite a bit of back focus.

I've had an Atlas for a year now. It's thin, solidly built, has about 100,000 steps, but is slow, takes forever to go from one end to the other and is LOUD. It sounds like an alarm going off when it moves.

You don't have to spend a fortune on a good focuser , I spent $99 at Andrews for this LP focuser , its the same as many higher end scopes made by LP , they make many of todays scopes .
Great value , not FT quality but at 1/8th the price who cares .
Here is mine on my home built Istar 127mm
Its a nice focuser .
Brian.

Yes the moonlite's are very good , but the other week my old mate Peter had his 150mm f8 SW frak fitted with a lovely moonlite around to do some work on it and do a comparo with my Istar 127mm f8 that's fitted with the LP $99 job.
We both found that there was nothing between the focusers , almost identical in build , load holding ( T2,20mm Nagler , heavy! ) and feel .

Optically , this story is a story for another time .
Brian.

Thanks Brian for the words.. But does the Lp come in moonlite red? :-P
Yes Lee I'll be getting the stepper version without controller, as I'm getting a mount hub pro which I'm told works with it. I was going to go the dc motors but it seems everyone that has used it ended up upgrading to the steppers sooner or later. Figured I'd just go straight for it :-D

Just a quick update. My Moonlite arrived yesterday and I have to say it's one sexy piece of equipment :-D And as always fantastic service from Ron. Only took 7 days from ordering to get it to my front door.
Cheers
Chris
