Mirror lock up on a canon 60d

I am using an interval timer to set multiple long exposures. How do I set mirror lock up? The manual says that when mirror lock is set , it is activated by the first press of the button , the second press activating the shutter. How can this be simulated using a camera interval timer?

Hello Philip,

You don't need to use the mirror lock for long exposures - it is usually used for bright objects and/or very short exposures where the vibration of the mirror can make a difference.

If you really want to use it - turn the mirror lock on and set the camera self-timer to 2 seconds. At the start of the exposure the mirror will open then after 2 seconds the exposure will start. If your timer is set for 60 seconds the actual exposed time will be 58 seconds.

Regards,
Tony.
