Planetariom and 8se

Hi all, simple questions...
Do I need to align my 8se first before starting a planetarium program and connecting to the scope.

I also downloaded stellarium and I do like the view it produces but when I bring out the milky way the smoothness is lost. The laptop is only 3 years old. Is there a planetarium program which will give a similar view but not be as cpu intensive.

Regards
Kon

You probably won't be able to connect to a computer unless your 8se has been aligned. However it won't need an accurate star alignment unless you want to drive the telescope from the computer and see what you have selected.

For example I can do an auto alignment and accept the points the telescope finds while the telescope is sitting on the floor beside me and Stellarium will connect and drive it.

Regarding Stellarium you can reduce the computer use by setting

[video]

minimum_fps = 18

to minimum_fps = 4

in the config.ini file
