Saturn June 6th 1st light red filter.

For one final push I've got a red filter for the QHY mono and here is the result of my first session using it. Again seeing was good though tailed off after 30 mins.

2 images below, first is red mono and 2nd red/colour cam 50/50 combo (using red as luminance after splitting colour cam into RGB produced a sharper but more noisy image for some reason).

Auto Dob 250+3x tv & mono QHY + colour QHY. 25 degree elev.

Mate, you're good at sneaking these threads in..Either that or I'm gettin' old, man.. NAH!

You're a natural. You are going to kick arse when Saturn is up nice & high..

Thanks John! I guess some of these low elevation shots slip under the radar.
Oh yes in the year 2030 when terminators are walking the earth I will be ready to kick Saturns butt lol Will have to make do with Jupiter for the time being.

A natural, for sure, but I reckon Stuart also puts a lot of work into it. I'd hate to see what he will produce when Saturn is above 40 degree... and he has the same equipment as me!!!

Keep on the great work Stuart.

Eric

Well I've been to the future and its a whole new world.......

Cheers Eric I guess attention to detail is the key but the new QHY cams have made a big difference and then using a red filter has added an extra level combining the mono and colour cams and of course the good seeing this past week made a huge difference. Primary fan too has improved things. It all adds up.
Yeah I would love to image Saturn at over 50 degrees like this guy with his 10" Dob :

Bit of an eye popper that one!

Thanks Stuart for the link. This picture of Saturn is one of the best ones I have seen by an amateur. The details are amazing. Then again it's ZuoZhao we are talking about. This guy is a top imager and, I suspect, a bit of a magician. He works with a 10" dobs, an ASI120MM and a Powermate x2,5, just like me

At the rate you are progressing, ZuoZhao better watch out!

Cheers,

Eric

He has some pretty special local seeing for sure but I'm confident come December I can match him on Jupiter if I get decent seeing.

To get this kind of result, his seeing must be extraordinary. What is equally as extraordinary is what he gets out of a $300 camera!

Looking forward to your Jupiter snaps!

Cheers,

Eric

The cmos cams are impressive. I was skeptical at first but since using the QHY5L-ll I'm a full convert. It will be interesting to see how they perform on Jupiter compared to my DFK. I'm expecting some pretty amazing frame rates!

Me too. This kind of camera perform very well. There is certainly better, but at a higher price. Now I hardly use the DMK41 on the Moon. With the ASI, at 60-70 fpm i get more frames and less noise.

Cheers,

Eric
