Ngc 6559

Another one where some more data seems required - this is 13 x 4 min subs at ISO1600, 10" SCT with f/6.3 focal reducer.

This is a really gorgeous area of nebulosity in Sagittarius. Entirely unknown until last week. (to me at least ). I'll be coming back! There are parts that look like a closer view would be worthwhile - maybe without the reducer.

EDIT: So I went back last night and got 18 x 8 min subs - near enough to 2 1/2 hours data at ISO 800. With dithering (couldn't be easier - one menu item to check in PhD, one button to press in BYEOS, and it just works).

See for yourself, they are chalk and cheese - even if the lo-res jpegs here don't really show how much difference there is.

Next step is noise removal is to match the tempts better - the lights were all stable around 20 degrees, but some of the darks are up to 32 degrees and I'm sure that's adding to the noise.

What a delightful object! Nice colour!

Looks like some field rotation near the edges...

Yep, time to check the polar alignment.

EDIT: Sheesh, miles out. Dog must have bumped the tripod ;-)

One of my favourites. I hope to give this area a hammering in a couple of months - gentlemans hours.

Veeerrry Nice Jon!

That 60Da gives colour rendition like my Atik 314L+, I think you have talked me into my next target with my scope...

Not sure if I could get it all in, but I will give it a go, if I can get half as good as a result as yours, I will be happy.

The star colours are great too, try the repair tool in Startools to warp them back into shape (shhhhh!)

Nice work!

Cheers

Chris

I'm an a balcony with a 180 degree view N-S, but can't quite track objects to the meridian. So I have to get in early! I get about 3 hours on any one object from a decent altitude (25 degrees or so) to when the balcony roof obscures the guidescope.

So I'm grabbing things early in the season :-)

Cheers Chris :-). It's a lovely field. Right now I have the scope patiently collecting 8 min subs at ISO800 as opposed to 4 min subs at ISO1600. That is, after having redone my drift alignment.

(I will confess that I often leave the tripod in place, take the mount head off during the day, then just whack it back on in the next night without drift aligning. So maybe I'm doing the dog a disservice).

Bumped this up as I've added an extra image from last night, with longer subs, lower ISO and dithering :-)

Well done John. It will be worth ditching the hot darks and taking a controlled set..

Jon, I think you may have started a trend!!
This is not in my Southern Hemisphere picture guide (Imaging the Southern Sky by Chadwick/Cooper) so I am going to have a go at this as well.
Well done my friend!
Cheers
Graham

Cheers Graham.

I'm also working my way through the Chadwick and Cooper book. We seem to be on a s liar sorta of trajectory with similar equipment. We should compare notes!
