Leveraging the Power of Masking

Hello,

I produced some tutorials last fall for a workshop I presented at AIC2012. These tutorials cover the basics to the advanced methods of creating and refining masks in Photoshop to selectively enhance your images.

I thought this would be a fitting place to share this 8 chapter series for my good friends here at ICEinSpace. For those who are interesting in learning about or expanding your masking skills I promise that these masking methods will benefit your image processing for years to come.

As always I freely share what I learn in the hopes that there will be some who benifit and enjoy this hobby even more.

http://www.imagingdeepsky.com/Tutorials/Masks/Masks.htm

Of course I make no claim that these are the best methods, but only some of the ones that help me.

Kindest Regards,

Thanks Ken,
I watched all 8 parts of this new series.
There were a few new tricks there for me.

I tend to process slightly differently by saving many versions on my hard disk.
I then grab an older version & blend it with a later one by changing the opacity & using blurred masks to feature the selected areas.
This allows me to over-do an area & back it off by blending &
saves having to be so precise about settings.

cheers
Allan

Thanks very much Ken, will definitely check them out.

I think one would be hard-pressed to find another hobby where people freely give so much back to the community eg, software, advice, sharing of information, and tutorials.

Great work!

Rusty

Thanks Ken, I must admit that masking at times does my head in, hopefully these will shed some light, no pun intended...

I am happy to hear there is some interest - Photoshop is a professional compositing program and it's power is in utilizing layers and masks.
