* IceInSpace Calendar Competition Winners Announced!
Winners of the 2014 IceInSpace Calendar Competition are now announced!

After running the IceInSpace Calendar Competition 2014 during May and June 2013, over 250 images were submitted and after a record breaking 1100 votes by the extended IceInSpace Community, the winning images have now been chosen by you!
Your IceInSpace Astronomy Calendar 2014 will be on sale in the
IceInSpace Shop from early August. So buy plenty of calendars for yourself, your family and friends, work colleagues etc
Congrats to all winners and thanks to the IceInSpace Community for your part in making this competition a success.

* CWAS David Malin Awards Winners
The CWAS "David Malin Awards" are the premier astrophotography competition in Australia, attracting entries from the cream of Australia's incredible crop of talent.
Winners were announced over the weekend, and the overall winner was
Martin Pugh with his beautiful and stunning deepsky image of NGC 3718.
Other category winners included:
- Widefield: Greg Gibbs
- Solar System hi-res: Phil Hart
- Solar System widefield: Troy Casswell
- People and Sky: Neil Creek
- Junior: Brooke Beniston
- Innovation: Troy Casswell
- Animated Sequences: Alex Cherney and James McHugh

* QLD Astrofest Celebrates 20 years
QLD Astrofest 2013 is being held from the 2nd - 10th August 2013, at Lions Camp Duckadang, Linville, Queensland - situated 166 kilometres north-west (within 2 hours) of Brisbane and under dark skies. Accommodation consists of three dormitories equipped with beds, toilets and a common room each. Camping sites for tents and caravans are also available.
The Queensland Astrofest has been the major star party in Queensland since its inception in 1993, and is open to all amateur astronomers. It is convened by the South East Queensland Astronomical Society, the Southern Astronomical Society, the Brisbane Astronomical Society, the Astronomical Association of Queensland, and the Amateur Telescope Makers of Queensland.

Check out this incredible footage of a Russian Proton M rocket crashing and exploding just seconds after launch.
