Coverage of Qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix begins in the early hours
of Sunday morning at 02:30 AM on both ONE HD and on TEN.

Coverage of the race itself beings at 03:30AM on Monday morning on TEN only.

If recording it, don't forget to record much longer than the nominal time as rain
red flagged the event for over two hours in 2011. Rain is forecast for qualifying
but it is predicted to be fine but overcast on race day.

Pirelli were suppose to supply tyres manufactured with Kevlar belts instead of
steel to prevent them delaminating, but they will only be available for practice,
not for the race.

The Italian tyre maker is bringing the red supersofts and white mediums
(last year they brought supersofts and softs) to the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in
Montreal.

No doubt the rubber from the sidewalls of some of those right front and right rear
tyres will end up being kissed up against the notorious "Wall of Champions".

In 1999, four drivers hit it, including Damon Hill, Michael Schumacher and
Jacques Villeneuve, all bringing out the Safety Car.

Every time Hamilton has managed to complete the Canadian Grand Prix, he
has won it - now three times during his career.

Meantime the FIA yesterday sent the Mercedes alleged illegal in-season
test case before its international tribunal. As it transpired, apparently
Ferrari also conducted tests with Pirelli in April, but using a 2011 car,
which is within the rules.

Those who watched the race will recollect where the Sauber of Esteban Gutierrez
crashed into the barrier at the closing stages.

Commentator Martin Brundle said at the time when then crane came out that they
were probably best just to leave the car there.

It was therefore extremely sad to learn that one of the marshals was killed after
being run over by the crane.

Vettel, once again, was certainly in a world of his own.

After that really nice overtake of Rosberg on lap 30, it was a pity to see Webber
later come to grief on lap 36 with Van der Garde, running last and with blue flags
waving, turning in on him.

Up to then Webber had been closing in on Hamilton and just keeping Alonso out of the
DRS. The collision cost one second plus the damage to the wing, that, as Webber
later said, "when you're fighting for podiums and you're racing Fernando he's
obviously going to sniff out any damage on the car."

Van der Garde later apologized but has received a five place grid penalty for the
later collision with Hulkenberg who was also lapping him.

Ricciardo apparently had "tyre degradation and oversteer issues".

Massa must be running up quite a repair bill on the Ferrari. He slammed into
the barrier in Monaco in final practice, again during the race in Monaco and again
during the race in Montreal. I can imagine it must take a toll on the body as well.
Just as the neck and back are healing, wham, you start all over again.
Thank goodness for the HANS device.

Good heavens ... that's awful. Should never have happened. I recall Brundle saying the car should be left with 4 laps to go.

Thats sad news about the marshall.

What do the engineers/designers think of all the testing/money spent on designing front wings etc, only to see them damaged in a race then the driver, Webber in this case, goes and sets the fastest lap, 4/10ths quicker than team mate Vettel. I think one of the commentators mentioned this aswell.


It was good to see a Williams back up the front of the pack, although I think if it had of been a dry q3 this may have been differant.

I think there is a bit of mischief between Webber and Vettel with these fastest laps. I know Seb likes to collect them.

I wonder where Webber will end up next year? Everyone seems to think he's moving on, but if he's still bringing in points and not threatening Seb, why change anything? RB seems to be managing the situation well since Malaysia.
