The Antennae from the 'burbs

Hi my name's Mario and here's my image of NGC's 4038 & 4039....

I feel like I need to re-introduce myself due to the time since I last posted!

This was probably the toughest processing job I've ever had. I finally got out on Sunday night (Friday & Saturday I was crook) and the Moon was probably only about 20 degrees from this object. From the shadow the scope was casting I could tell my images would be awash with light. Add to that cloud that appeared from nowhere and drifted across my FOV together with the standard Brisbane light pollution and I think you'll get my drift. I could have waited for a better night but I WAS DESPERATE!!!

Anyway, there's a few odd coloured stars but I did manage to image the tails so not all was lost. A couple of weeks time I'll redo this sucker and get some decent data but in the meantime here's my image from last night. Oh, taken with my RC8 on a HEQ5Pro with a UHC-S light pollution filter.

Any suggestions/comments greatly appreciated..

Cheers,
Mario

Mario - you have got some good detail there given the circumstances.

Nice one, Mario. You did well with the faint bits considering the conditions!

Thanks for that Chris! I am happy with the detail and I'm pretty confident with my ability to collimate at least the secondary on my RC8.

Thanks Lauire! I would have been happier with a tad more colour but the individual subs, together with the final product, were awash with light!

Rick, thanks for the compliment. I want to go back and do this under more ideal conditions because I know I can image the tails so much better!

Hi Mario,

Good to see you back.

Nice capture considering the adverse conditions.

Good luck with it.

Thanks Ross. I think I'm going to have to get myself to a dark site just to see what I can do with more ideal conditions!
