so, the question that begs answering is how long before we can do our astrophotography over a bluetooth connection forever getting rid of the troublesome cable?

how cool would that be hey

When I bought my Losmandy GM-8 I had a grand plan of using it wirelessly:

1 x RS232 - Bluetooth - RS232 (for computer control)
1 x USB - Bluetooth - USB (for webcam - guidescope)
1 x Parallel - Bluetooth - Parallel (for ST7)

I wanted the RS232 and USB going to a Palm computer.

It seemed like it would all work fine with off the shelf stuff, but the problem I ended up with was that both ends of the conversion need power, they didn't have battery units available. So I'd end up with cables to supply power to both ends anyway. Or short cables going to small battery packs (that I'd make) at the very least.

And then I lost interest when I bought a house and so have no money anyway :-)

It'd be cool to see someone setup like this. I thought of doing the same just for my LX200 classic's hand controller, to make it wirless. Needless to say I never got anywhere with the idea.

Roger.

I'm currently doing wireless astrophotography from the DSI so I can stay indoors this winter and keep warm. I use remote desktop from my comp in my room to the laptop outside connected to the DSI plus a 30 metre cat5e cable for the skyscan handset. thanks to Adam (hitchhiker) & houghy for the idea .

Hi Eric,

and all the time here I was looking at your masterpieces and thinking how commited you was, sitting out there in the crisp cold Victorian air. Well you won't get any more simpathy from me.

Thats technology, good on ya.

Interesting topic, last week i was at Leon`s place and told him i was experimenting with a wireless security camera (see photo).
It actually works relly well the capture video is pretty poor quality as the camera is a CMOS unit. Also my Dob is not motorised.
I managed to capture Jupiter and the Moon but as i said quality was poor.
But with a better quality CCD camera the setup would be so much better.
At least you could stay inside
