Give away(…only to a
good home!) My full spectrum/clear glass(AR Edmonds) Canon D30. That’s a
D30 NOT a 30D.
Let me be clear from the start as this is going on a few forums and some might not get what it is, it’s an “astro modded” DSLR meaning it has the IR block filter removed and replaced with clear glass, the Auto focus has been corrected by calculation only, added feeler gauge shims but I have been too lazy to break out the Focus card and confirm it’s not soft(inevitably it probably is slightly!). This camera can be used as a normal DSLR with the addition of an OWB filter: which is pretty much a waste of time and money btw! But the camera is good for IR work and this is probably the best home it can go to, a budding IR photographer that will get some good use out of it, perhaps just starting out and they don’t have the coin necessarily for a new modded IR, they will just need some filters.
Now ASTRO Photographers…read this again and again! This is PROBABLY NOT the camera for you, check the supplied NOISE(f/4.5-4.0sec-ISO 800) image…it’s the exact reason I am upgrading to a 400D Aliasing in- IR out modd.
The person who gets it has to convince me that they have a genuine interest in what this camera can do and more to the point convince me they KNOW the limitations of it. Like it’s old, not good for night time ect only takes EF lenses or modded EF-S’s, I can explain or modd EF-S’s if you need one as a cheaper option but for the love of God don’t give the modded lens to someone with a full-frame(5D-1D) because when they crunch their mirror on it they will be really pleased with you!
This was my first ever mod and I learnt a lot from it, in ways it opened up a new chapter in my life and if it could do that again for someone else that would be pretty cool and this is the reason I am posting this. I could sell it?! Sure it owes me a bit of coin but what I have gained from it in experience is priceless so recovering the actual money I spent doesn’t worry me, not that it’s a lot! And not that I would ask a lot for it! LOL!
To wrap up this sad little story… if you pay S/H and can convince me that you really want this camera and it’s NOT going to sit in your house gathering dust which would be the worst case scenario IMHO… then I will gladly dispense it with a smile and a good luck with it!
