Hello

Well, after giving Jupiter a miss last night, I managed to grab a few faint fuzzies with the C9.25, Celestron F6.3 Reducer/Corrector and my old SBIG ST7E ccd camera. I’m still having some problems with an annoying oscillation in the RA axis during auto guiding, with excursions of up to ± 1.2 pixels, so unfortunately some of the stars are slightly elongated in the NGC4945 image and not as quite as tight as they could be in the others. NGC6744 is quite faint and it didn’t help that there is some quite severe light pollution in that direction from where I set up my gear in the back garden.

Images:
M 83, nearly face on Spiral Galaxy aka NGC 5236, in Hydra
Magnitude: 7.90, Size: 13.5'x 12.3'.
Imaged from 8:11pm to 9:24pm, 30 exposures of 120 secs.

NGC 4945, Galaxy aka PGC 45279, in Centaurus
Magnitude: 9.30, Size: 20.4'x 4.4'
Imaged from 9:52pm to 10:24pm, 10 exposures of 180 secs.

M 16, an Open Cluster aka NGC 6611, in Serpens Cauda
Magnitude: 6.50
Imaged from 12:30am to 01:13am, 28 exposures of 60 secs.

NGC 6744, Galaxy aka PGC 62836, in Pavo
Magnitude: 9.10, Size: 20.4'x 13.8'
Imaged from 01:50am to 02:40am, 10 exposures of 300 secs.

Capture & Processing:
All images captured in CCDSoft.
Flat Field, Dark Frame subtracted and Combined in MIRA AP.
Histogram stretch in AIP4Win2.

Cheers

Dennis

Thank you everyone for your nice words, they made the long imaging session worthwhile! I have a long way to go yet.

Still reading the Ron Wodaski book.
Still trying to match my pixel size to my focal length.
Still trying to understand my Tak EM200 and its oscillation.
Still learning how to process these faint fuzzies.
Still having fun!

One day, I'll get into colour like Striker, but by then, no doubt he will have moved on to H Alpha!

Cheers

Dennis
