Ngc 5078 & 5101.

Hi,

NGC 5078 and 5101 in Hydra are mag 12.0 and 11.4. They are quite small in the full frame so I've supplied a cropped image too.

Quite an interesting field of galaxies, plenty more to be seen in the full frame.
This would be a stunning field for Mikes AG12 and David's Bunyip.

My gear doesn't really do these galaxies justice.

Equipment.

8" Newtonian astrograph f/4. on Heq pro 5 mount. Orion mini guider.

Unmodded canon 1100D, baader coma corrector, cooler box.

19 x 8 minute subs, darks and flat frames applied.

Median stack in DSS, processed in PS7.

Cheers,

Justin.

Funny you should say that, I nearly did it instead of my last field...may still yet

But hey, your image is very good, showing the contrasting galaxies quite nicely, well done

Mike

Thanks Mike!

Deep sky plates show some nebulosity around NGC 5078, don't know whether this is galactic Cirrus?
Too faint for me, but you may be able to image it.
See image attached.
