Alpha Centauri to Crux

I went for shorter subs to reduce star trailing and hoped
that DSS would do the rest to round the stars out.

150 x 25 sec iso 1600 subs with darks and bias
Sony Nex-3 camera (only tripod mounted)
Stacked in DSS
Processed in GIMP

I have a such question: how had you managed to take such a "linear" image without flats? Or with?

Great photo Wayne. You really nailed the "Dark Doodad" in Musca and the "Coal Sack".

Does that camera have a Bulb setting?

Michael.

Thanks Mike, Laurie & Pupkin.

Mike, The camera does have a bulb mode but no socket or IR remote for a bulb.
If i use bulb mode i need to hold the shutter button down with a manual bulb.

Pupkin, This image of alpha centauri to crux is about a 70% crop of of the origional stacked image i cropped so much off to focus on the area i wanted to have in the image.

Nice picture Wayne , there are several options to control the Bulb function . I currently use a canon interval timer attached to an IR device that enables me to accurately take multiple exposures at any exposure length using my nex5.
