Moon 2 April: You never know your luck!

Here I was yesterday morning with 30mn to kill before heading off to work. Dawn wasn't very far off and the Moon was sooo tempting... I just had to roll up the garage door and hook up the computer to the scope to get it in AP action.

I pointed the scope to the moon, adjusted the focus of the ASI120MM... the image on the screen waved and shaked... disappointment. I thought while I am here I'd better take a few AVIs, just in case. I went to work thinking I had wasted my time.

In the evening, I processed a few AVIs which confirmed my impression of the morning: it had been a waste of time. Wait! what about processing that Clavius AVI which look a bit better than the rest? Crikey!! said I, after having pushed the deconvolution button. Not that bad after all!

It may not be my best Clavius (it's a bit fuzzy around the edges), but it's decent, I think.

When you think the seeing is not quite there, you never know your luck. The Heavens could open up for a few seconds, just for you!

I also attach an image of Archimedes, from the same session, which I also like.

Thanks for looking.

Eric

PS No more Clavius for a while, I promise.

Hi Eric
They have turned out very well - really smooth and detailed - post as many Clavius images as you can!

Thanks Batema, Laurie, Mark and Stuart.

Concerning the texture, I am trying to move away from the hard sharpened feel of earlier images. I find that less hardness (and, consequently a bit less definition) is more pleasing to the eye (mine at least) as it looks more natural.

Cheers,

Eric
