Now your getting the hang of it Johnny. The disc detail will just get better and better. Try inverting the image you just posted (the b/w)and adjusting it in curves.

Ralph could I ask what settings for gain, exposure and gamma you would set for capturing prominences in the way that you do.

And also regarding the processing, how do you end up with the contrast that you do and the bluish purple background?

Thanks.

Yeah Johnny no problem.
I take it the image of the prom here is one AVI with the 5x Barlow?. If so the double stack is going too produce some good stuff.
Your gear is double stacked and mine is single. Also my image train is twice the focal length of yours and the only common link is the DMK51.
All the settings I use would be completely different on your gear.
I think you are not using enough Gama. For normal shots I use between 40 and 60. For proms I use no more than 200 gama with the exp. about the same as a normal disc shot. The gain usually is about 550 to700 depending on the conditions. I set Exp and the Gama and control the visual appearence of the image with the Gain. It changes with conditions but a start would be to get a nice disc image up on your computer, incress the Gama to 200, then bring up the gain to suit.
Give me ring and we will go from there. The only other way is for me to grab your scope and sort out all the basic settings and you go from there. More than happy to do that if you wish.
PS- Sending my wife down as collateral.
As for the colouring thats easy in PS CS6 which you have. Ill give you a heads up when you ring.-Too much typing!!!
