M42 + Running Man

Hi all...

Here is my second attempt at imaging M42 and running man.
Seeing was fair

Used:
William Optics ED Doublet110mm Megrez (no focal reducer used)
Heq5 Pro
Celestron Autoguider
Orion Starshoot Deep sky imager colour CCD camera

This is a composition of the following exposures:
20x 10sec
20x 30sec
20x 40sec
10x 100sec
No dark, flat or bias frames used. (still learning)

stacked in Deep Sky Stacker and processed in CS6

Nice shot Johnny, a little too 'black' on the background, but still a pleasing image.

That's because it is clipped in the black. Great data otherwise. Just due for a quick repro.

Yeah I agree the black is too dark.
Over did the levels ....

That looks a lot better. Flat fielding next will get rid of uneven illumination. Meanwhile you can us a gradient removal tool to flaten the field. Many programs do that.

You really need to watch the histogram. The background should never be truly, noise is real - it's okay to keep it in.

Marc I am still trying to get my head as to how to take flats,darks and bias frames.

The last set of dark frames I spent hours taking were all rejected by DSS. ..
Is there s good article to rea that explains the difference and more importantly for to take all these frames?

I would look through the project and articles section on the home page here as there are a number of articles written about those exact topics.
