Saturn

First Saturn for the year, squeezed it in whilst getting bitten and dodging the clouds. Average seeing and transparency, jet stream low, full moon and Saturn below 30 degrees. Did the best I could with the conditions.

1800 frames keeping best 70%
DBK21
2 x Barlow

Due to the cloud cover I had no time to test the Canon 450D on Saturn, I hope over the next few weeks I will get a chance to see if it will do better than the DBK using BEOS.

Thanks for looking

Be vigilant Carl; this time of year is IT for us QLD'ers seeing related. By the time May gets here it'll be back to '10 months of crappola seeing coming right up'. Great attempt!

Thanks guys for the great feedback.

John, thanks for the heads up I had no idea our ideal planet seeing time only lasted for a couple of months. I will just have to catch the weather and try my hardest when it happens.

Great work Carl

I look forward to seeing your DSLR work with BEOS as this is something I am yet to trial too with my 1100D.

Keep em coming and I hope you manage to get some clear skies in.

Regards

Gav

Thanks eveyone for your kind words, as John stated I must be vigilant so at about 1 am this morning the skies were fairly good so I had another try.
Below are my results, the first using a 2x barlow which came out fairly good and the second was using a 3x barlow. I think the conditions were not up to the 3x but it still conducted itself pretty good (seeing around 70% and some jet stream and average transparency). Both images were around 10000 frames using my DBK21.
I attempted using my Canon 450d but by results did not seem anywhere near as good. I thinking at this point that the DLSR is fantastic for DS but still has nothing on a ccd for planetary imaging.

Thanks for looking

I thought I would put up my DSLR version of my Saturn image. It seems a lot more complex to do this with a DSLR compared to my DBK. You seem to be able to change ISO and shutter speed and still keep a constant 20fps which is a little confusing. I shall have to read up more on the subject before I try again. Although the image is taken at a higher resolution on the DSLR I found the DBK ccd to still give a better result. This however is probably due to my lack of knowledge.
Any advice or links to DSLR planetary would be greatly appreciated.

Carl
