Markarian's Chain

There's a piece of sky in Virgo filled with a huge number of galaxies. A small piece show a chain called Markarian. I tried to shot in one clear night (-13°C), at my best.

This is the result:

Thanks for looking and i hope you enjoy it.

All the best,
Leo

A lovely field, Leo, and nicely processed. You do have a few odd artifacts which are more visible at full resolution. I've attached a crop with one right in the middle of the image.

Cheers,
Rick.

Thanks for comments.

@RickS : i forget to mention, there's a lot of asteroid traces. at end of my web page on the info table you may found this note:

"In the final image I found the traces left by at least 12 asteroids, I decided to not remove them. In the full resolution version, can be identified with a little patience.."

Sorry, its a deep image with a dusty background that i try to mantain.

All the best,
Leo

A wonderfully deep and expansive vista Leo! Nice crisp stars and colour. A gorgeous image !

As a very minor critique, the cyan in NGCs 4388, 4438 and a couple of other smaller galaxies looks a bit out of proportion.

Cheers, Marcus

I can only be reasonably sure of four brighter than mag 15.6, Leo. (742) Edisona, (745) Mauritia, (1078) Mentha, (4107) Rufino. I'm guessing you shot the image somewhere around 01:00 UTC.

Could the others be satellites?

Thanks to all for comments.

I'll check the color, but i haven't a right amount of chrominance data for doing better.

All the best,
Leo

Hi Leonardo,
That is so nice - it's an image that shows the true splendour
of the huge number of galaxies in their cluster.
It's seems almost a miracle to pick all that up so brightly with a 106mm scope.

fine job.

Allan

Beautiful Leonardo, I spent some time on this area on my last observing session. It is great to follow the line.
Cheers
