Ngc5139

Had some spare time today so decided to look up a few background galaxies.

Here's some lum data of NGC5139 (10x5min subs) taken with the ED80 ans QSI683. I went looking for the galaxy to the right using CDC and DSS images. Works pretty well - I believe it is this one:

http://ned.ipac.caltech.edu/cgi-bin/...lat=-48d14m10s

Also did a comparison of an inverted crop of my image to the ESO 1m Schmidt reference image - quite amazed what you can do in under an hour from a couple of km's from the centre of Brisbane using an 80 mm refractor.

Images in order:
1. My NGC5139 full frame
2. Same as 1 with ESO image overlayed
3. CDC DSS image I used to identify the galaxy
4. My inverted crop
5. The 1m Schmidt reference image

Thanks for looking.

Good imaging.

I overlaid an OLD Anglo-Australian image of M83 and surrounds on my M83 images to identify some of the faint fuzzies in my image. Once you know where they are, you can spot them

Excellent work Peter – I love these projects where you go data mining for off the beaten track objects. Nicely presented!

Cheers

As noted, nicely presented there Peter.
I also enjoy hunting out the feint fuzzies and find the inverted images work well and yes the ED80's do a pretty fair job don't they, I'm happy with mine.

Yep, I'm always amazed at what can be imaged from so close to Brisbane's CBD and think what you've captured is fantastic! Looks like I might need to go and have a look at my old 5139 data now...

Cheers,
Mario
