Saturn 1st attempt

First attempt at attaching a photo. First attempt at Saturn. The other night first reasonably clear night for a long time. Saturn at about 30 degrees over the eastern horizon. Lots of light pollution from the city, bit of haziness in the air.

ED80, Celestron NexImage5 solar system colour, best frames from a minute avi. Registax6 (but I am still learning that program).

Oh well at least I can get better

Everything looks good Roger. Need a bit more image scale now. Own a Barlow lens?

I do but with a red dot finder which seemed cross eyed i couldn't find the planet with it in place. I need to spend more time setting up (it was a bit of a rushed session.

Anyway I have reprocessed it with Autostakket (seems easier to understand than Registax). Looks like it came out a bit better.

Thanks for all the encouragement everyone

Best thing to do is 'sneak up on it' Roger re finding it at 2X. I always make sure both mount axis are locked, find & centralize target without the barlow, alter camera setting so the target is very bright. Gingerly take the camera out, slide barlow in & replace camera. Hopefully you'll see an out of focus donut, & simply refocus.

I was kinda using that approach initially with an eye piece, and it worked well without the barlow, but i think I need to find an eyepiece with the same field of view and then if possible set a par focal ring on either it or the camera.

But when it came to the barlow configure it just seemed to disappear altogether. A bit of daylight experimenting is called for I think.

But I now have an EQ6pro coming so the image scale with the C8 scope should be a lot better. The old EQ5 just wobbled a bit much with the C8.
