Some chook from last night

I set up last night trying to get comet ISON which I'm still trying to find. Lots of technical issues. Mostly between the chair and the keyboard... One of those nights. We have so little clear opportunitites lately that when I do grab a couple of hours I rush in and always manage to goof up something. Too much pressure man... Bloody weather.

Still I managed 1.5h on IC2944 with in Oiii before going to bed and blended it to the existing Ha I had. So it's Ha (R) HaOiii (G) Oiii (B). I used a combination of software to work out the picture. CS6, Startool, Goodlook and CCD Stack.

There's a bigger one here in my gallery. I think focus is a little soft and I'll certainly revisit. Anyway that's my fix for the week.

I really like the overall look of this Marc. Nice colours and framing. It has a kind of brooding look too (pun intended ) - quite appealing On a personal taste level I'd still increase the vibrancy a bit though.

A bit of blue cast bottom right?

Cheers, Marcus

Thanks Marcus. I pushed it as much as I felt comfortable with without it falling apart. The underlying Ha data is from last year and really not very good. You can see it more noticeably in the high res version. It shows a lot of details in the blues as the Oiii channel is better but I'll have to reshoot the Ha at some stage.

The blue cast is a corner gradient from flat fielding. The flats were also totally bodged. Still no idea why but I suspect now it's the ferrite block on the USB lpower line that casted a shadow when I pointed the OTA up and it moved. Just a combination of things that night that just made my life that tad easier...

It has a 3D look about it and is a nice way of looking at the chook in a different style.

All the best

Thanks guys. Way too kind. I'll settle for that until I get something better. That's the only color version I have of it so far.

Hi Marc
Great image. I love the Bok Globs on this object and they have come out well. Also like the depth of the image. Nicely done.

I think that's stunning! It has a very understated (brooding, as Marcus said) look about it.

Keep 'em comin'!

I find that you were right to go out because it is an image full of details, it 's great.
For the saturation, it was already indicated!!: P

See you soon.

Hi Marc,

Lovely job. The running Chicken is a favourite of mine, and you have done a great job. Nice framing, detail, and colouring. Although we are far from each other, the weather here has been annoying too. Here in Melbourne has been clear but REALLY hot, even through the clear nights, making seeing lousy. I've done something like 20hrs Ha, but its just not sharp, its smooth, but just so soft. Your couple of hours were probably worth more.

Steve

Thanks Steve. Yes, flat fielding gone wrong.

Thank you very much Steve. You seem to like it better than I do. I can't blame the seeing as it was pretty good that night. I know what you're saying about the weather. When it's not stinking hot it's raining and when it's just right then it's windy.

Thanks David. Glad you liked it.
What's up with the Bunyip? Collecting dust? Or water...

Both actually - I've noticed that the main mirror could do with some cleaning and the small water tank connected to the observatory is full. I have, however, managed to finish coillecting data for NGC 2997 and should have it processed in the next few days ...
