Gemini L4 and model/sync on RA/Dec from manual plate solve

I have a G-11/Gemini L4 (v1.01). Is it possible to build a pointing model by slewing the mount to various points, taking an image at each, plate solving the image, then inputting to Gemini what the true RA/Dec it is pointing at is, rather than slewing to objects and centering/aligning??
Even without building a model, just a sync to an accurate RA/Dec near a faint fuzzie would help the goto then find it.... Do I need GCC to do this? Is it possible at all?? I've read through the manual, and can't find anything much about it???
