ToUcam continues to impress

Well...

I'm a huge fan of the ToUcam.

This is just a quick run through Registax with no other processing. The seeing was rubbish with Jupiter wobbling all over the screen. 3/10 at best.

But I think the result far outstrips anything I managed to get from the NexImage on nights of better seeing.

That's just my opinion. Not looking to start a war.

I'm just very happy with the new webcam and looking forward to a night with better seeing.

Feedback, criticism, advice ... very welcome.

Nicely done. Processing is just the way I like it....a hint of speckle/grain to bring out that detail! Bit too bright if anything. Could be my screen though.

What were your settings? Length of capture blah blah...

Great image, Matt. The moon and its shadow add a real 3 dimensional quality. My attempt at capturing moons with good definition and exposure at the same time as the planet haven't been too successful. Is there a trick? Did it get separate processing or brightness boosting?

Nice work Matt, it does appear to be giving you better results already.

Graeme, I've never had a trouble capturing the planet and 4 main jovian moons with the same exposure settings. What settings do you use for gain and gamma? What framerate and what shutter speed?

That is a cracker of a Jupiter for 3/10 seeing. To achieve that quality and definition under such conditions is remarkable - a big well done.

It's nice to see what these C9.25's can do when it all begins to come together.

that's an excellent shot lovely detail and colour and surprisingly sharp

Do you find less grain with the Toucam compared with the Neximage so you can push gain a little more (or have less grain for the same gain)... that was the big plus I noticeed when I changed.

Last night was very exciting. The first thing I noticed immediately on first using the ToUcam was the image appeared less grainy on the laptop screen compared to the NexImage.

Rob: you are right on both counts. You can push gain for lesser grain, or notice less grain when using the same gain setting as when using the neximage.

Rigel: there was no trick to getting the moon and its shadow. From memory our settings were: 10fps, shutter speed 1/33 sec, gain 45%, gamma 0%, saturation 100%, brightness 45%, and we captured for 90 seconds.

There was no separate processing of the moon in registax. Just set the alignment box to 256 and did the whole thing in one run.

The next step for me is to really work on my processing skills to make the most of what I'm capturing.
