Deep Tarantula

Tarantula Nebula

4 hrs exposure Ha filter BRC-250 and ST-X10ME.

Higher resolution here.

It is rare to get 4 hrs of cloud free time near the coastal regions of Victoria this time of year due to the eddy effects.

Clear skies

Detail is superb Steven. A fast focal length of about 1200mm looks like a real sweet spot if the optics are very high quality. Mike Sidonio's images also show this.

Very nice, Steven! Are you hoping to get some colour as well?

Great shot but the core is a little blown out.
Did you take any shorter subs to layer into the core?

Rarely is a close up Tarantula not worth a look and this is no exception Steve

Strange the core doesn't look blown out to me

Sub exposures were 10 minutes long.

I have an aversion adding colour to Ha data. Maybe its because I'm not good at it, but monochrome Ha images carry more impact.

Well maybe it's not -
I just wanted to see if you'd taken some short exposures so I could compare them.
It is however a great image.

cheers

A great camera it is despite star blooming and a small sensor size.
