Best resolution for guiding using Phd

I have an ASI130MM camera and am using it with PHD , everything seems to be working OK. I am using a resolution of 640x480 in the settings, is that the best selection?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Basically if you are getting nice round stars in your pix and you are not losing the guide star during a session then you're on the right path.

Thanks again Brent for your help, one other question I have is darks. I took a dark , saved it and reloaded it is that what I'm supposed to do? Other than that all seems to work with my ed80 and c9.25" at f10.

A dark ( or a stack of darks = Master dark ) is used to offset the hot pixels and possible sensor flaws that show up when you stack your 'lights' which are the actual object pix you take.
In DSS you register and stack the lights ( images ) and the process uses the darks to fill in any hotpixel false readings. Therefore you get a relatively clean final image. (It ain't perfect ! ).

I'm still getting the hang of it all myself, there are just so many possible controls and permutations to manipulate the pictures that it can be real confusing. Practice makes perfect they say in which case I need a LOT of practice. LOL

Brent, I *think* 5ash is asking about using a dark in PhD. I have the same uncertainty.

Yes, I'm not sure how to operate the darks facility in phd.i suspect it's to remove noise from the guide star image but am unsure how to use it?

Click on "Take Darks" button next to the "Brain" icon and PHD will ask you to cover your guide scope - click OK after you've have covered the guide scope and it will then iterate a few "Darks" exposures and then it will ask you to remove the cover - from now hopefully you will have a clean image thru the guide scope (without the previous "hot pixels" to confuse you into thinking they are stars!) as long as the frame-rate is NOT changed! When the frame-rate is changed you must re-take those darks again

Thanks for the info, so when I took the dark I didn't have to save it and reload it as I did. Just take it as requested after pressing the dark button and noise will be reduced.
