Dob cooling part IV

Some of you may remember I had cut a hole in the side of my OTA to remove the boundary layer a few months back. I had since cover it with cardboard and a rubber band once i got my peltier system up and running.

Well I took it off and now am peltier cooling extremely well.

I can keep the mirror at 1 degree below ambient as it is falling.

Very nice!

Ok....But why is it cooling more efficiently just because it has a hole in the tube 90 degrees to the peltier. Hell, I can't remember....The peltier is at the back of the mirror in an enclosed system isn't it?

from the bottom up, i have peltier, cold plate, fans blowing onto back and around mirror, mirror and then say 1/2" above top face of mirror, the hole at 90 degrees.

I think that the air can escape / interact with ambient as opposed to trying to cool 1250mm x 290mm of air and having trouble

Yes pictures please. 1deg below ambient is impressive seeing as you are in Tassie.

here's some pics

note i was feeling guilty, so i followed matt and ice and tidied up the cables a bit

hmmm, my mirror looks nice with those dratted etchings

this is the hole i cut to extract the boudary layer a few months back, which i now attribute to a colder mirror ie way quicker to beat the ambient to a settled temp.

Hey man, you could strap a honda stationary motor to that dob buggy to get to a dark site, or drag the kids off in their peddle-powered go-karts!

The fastest dob-buggy in the west!!

YEEEE-HAAAARRR!

I guess if your mirror gets foggy with dew you can stick a hairdryer in the hole.
Have you had to do this yet?
Does that then change the mirror temp much?
