Can anyone tell me how the infrared sensitivity of CCD cameras used in astronomy compares to that of Thermal imagers used for building inspection (for detection of termite nests, water leaks, etc).
Could a camera suitable for the 8" Edge hyperstar setup I have also be used for thermal imaging of the interior house walls, with an apropriate lens capable of close focusing?
We recently shifted to a termite prone area and I'm wondering if I can get double duty out of an imager.
Short answer...no.
The silicon in the CCD chip becomes "transparent" to NIR around 1100nm.
Howell's Book " Handbook of CCD Astronomy" p 37 explains the reasons....
