This satellite image from weatherzone is of cyclone Ingrid a very well formed and worrying cyclone off the Qld coast at the moment. Mother Nature can be terrifying and beautiful at the same time, unbelievable eye formation.

What are its predicted movements ?
Guess I had better check the Met Bureau !
I dont live in Cairns, but I have a house there

Just had a look at the Cyclone warning, had better make sure the hatches are battened down there !

Very awesome shot, looks like at least a category 4 cyclone. Got any stats on it. What category is it.

Cat 4 and getting stronger moving WSW at 8km at this time (140 mph winds), watch from Lockhart River to Port Douglas.

Wow, I was up that way during cyclone avou (can't remember the exact spelling) in 89-90, that was only a cat three. That looks pretty menacing. I know a few people in cairns, I might them a call tomorrow.

The eye is "slowly" moving westward. Who said the big wets (recharge events for us groundwater hydrologists) up north are over by the end of Feb?

Hey Gaa-ian, it would appear as though it is heading straight for Gove. Still cant call the town by its Aboriginal name, I am an old territorian from way back. Lived in Darwin/Katherine for over 12 years. Based on predictions this "mother' is heading straight for you guys, followed by a trip across the arafura sea and bending south into the Timor sea very close to Darwin. The 4 day weather map forecast at least indicates this track.

I have just come through 24 very difficult hours
We had wind gusts of 200 kph last night.
Spent the early hrs of the morning, trying to sleep in the hallway with the family. (as every one else I spoke with did)
Lots of trees down & some minor structural damage.
Now it is even bigger with 320kph gusts.
Very worrying for Darwinites.
