Comet C/2012 T5 (Bressi)

Hi,

Here's another comet apparently undergoing an outburst, cometC/2012 T5 Bressi.
Around the 20th it was around 16th mag, could be around 11th mag at the moment.
A little difficult to image with the full moon, and only being 25 degrees above the western horizon in Sculptor.
It's sporting a nice tail, certainly plenty of comet action at the moment.

I've supplied a location map, two false colour images between 2200 and 2230, plus one original.

All are 5 x 1 minute exposures.
With my equipment below.

Cheers,

Justin.

Great capture, Justin! Just a little easier to see detail in the false colour images.

Fantastic job Justin, you've captured it well under very difficult conditions! Tail looks to be about 3', extending faintly out to maybe 6' in PA 80 deg.

Comes up well in an animation, attached, hope you don't mind. Here's links to my rough shots from last night and the night before, just 400D on Vixen polarie -

Thanks Rob!
Amazing you picked it up, with all the crud you had to contend with!

Thanks for doing the animation, hope it keeps up the outburst before it sinks into the twighlight in mid feb.

Cheers,

Justin.

Hmmm Justin, what is that apparent long thin spike in about PA 310 (about 4:30 in your shot as you look at it)? Shows better in the animation. I checked an image by Michael Mattiazzo of Castlemaine, Vic, and it shows a similar but shortened feature.

Artifacts & just coincidence?

Think it's an artifact, at this stage. I need to go though all the images from last night to find the best to confirm this.

Cheers,

Justin.
