While there have been several tragic bushfires around Australia over the past weeks, none has felt closer to home than the Siding Spring Observatory fire, where the observatories came under direct threat, and many staff members of the observatory lost their homes.
Given we're an amateur astronomy community, this has affected people we know, places we have stayed, people we have met, people we admire. Some of them even members of IceInSpace!
To try and help them rebuild, IceInSpace has donated $500 to the
ANU Siding Spring Observatory Fire - Staff Emergency Relief Fund.
I wish we could donate to every bushfire appeal! I can't imagine how scared they all were. It's so lucky there was no loss of life.
