I did have a pair for a few days. The triplet lens is not as great as the advertising hype would have you believe. There is still plenty of false colour there. At least as much but maybe even more than the 20x90 which is only a doublet. The triplet does have shorter tubes though.

If you're reading the specs on the Andrews site, I believe they are incorrect. Check www.aoe.com.au for the specs, or the exporter's site at www.binocularschina.com

Although it's been a while since I looked through the triplet but I feel that the 20x90 doublet is better in every way. It weighs about the same and has the same FOV. All metal bracing makes it quite a bit sturdier. Perhaps the triplet has a flatter field but I cannot remember.

I have to admit to NEVER having looked through the Triplet 20x80's,

Having a Triplet 10x42,I Totally agree with STEVE,the Triplet objectives are overrated INMHO.

BUT, I do have the 20x80 LW's,and they are Astounding value for the money.

Very little CA,even on a full moon,just a SLIGHT yellow tinge,
Very sharp across 80% of the FOV,

There is a review on Cloudy Nights,by Ed Zarenski,one of the Binocular gurus,who Stated the 20x80 LW's were one of the best 20x80's he had ever looked through.

Bear in mind this review was done some time ago,and no doubt he has used others in this class,and may have found something better.

But,I do know he wasn't as keen on the triplets.

I have a pair, brought from AOE,for the price I reckon they are a great buy although you need to factor in a decent camera tripod to mount them on.I might be easily satisfied but I find the view through them extremely pleasing , my first look at the Eta Carinae region was damn impressive. I do find I have to tweak the focus as I move around the sky and there is noticeable reflections if a bright object like the moon or jupiter are just outside the FOV but I would be splitting hairs to make judgements on CA and sharpness.Its a shame the build quality looks a little cheap { }, the plastic coverings at the objective end look a little tacky and the paint finish inside the tubes looks a little rough.Ive seen the Orion/celestron types and they look more solid and pro looking but are a lot more expensive .Definitely a worthy bit of kit to own, they have nearly retired my Zeiss marine 7x50s handy for terrestrial work as well

Stuart, did you make that mounting bracket or bought it?

is the quick point necessary?

I think Mark (Hodgson) had one and I looking through them. Very nice but my views through them were only brief. But I will be getting a 20x80LW from AOE hopefully by the end of this week. Let you know how they perform.....
