PC Jan 2013

Anyone up for the PC this Saturday 5th?
With moon rise at about 00:30 Sunday it could be a short night but the weather is looking pretty good at this stage.

Greg.

I'm in.

Allan, will you be bringing the big wind-breaking van? Looks like it may be a little blowy.

Affirmative Shane.
Last time we positioned it beautifully to shield us all from that distant street light too.
So we may have to choose.

Thats no excuse. The sun does not even set until after 20:00.
Plenty of time to get there and set up before it gets dark enough.

There is a set of directions to Mangrove mountain at the top of this forum. Hope to make it myself tomorrow.

According to Google Earth, the street sign near the gate for Mangrove Mountain Pony Club is at 33°20'17.69"S 151° 9'29.58"E plus or minus a couple of tenths of a second in lat/lon.

If I was going I'd just put that in the GPS and let it do the hard work.

Jason (warpsl), if you like, you can follow me. I am near to where you are. It is pretty simple to get to... just takes about 45 minutes from where we are.

Question Note to Allan

Sorry Allan,I'm not a pretty sight after a 12 hour shift at work and most people want to avoid me like the plague until I've had a good nights sleep

Alternate location

We have discussed it previously, now up for discussion with everyone: a Friend and colleague is inviting us to look at an alternate site at kulnura on her 700 acre farm.

It apparently has a back paddock that is unused (except for a house cow) with a shed with power and toilet. We would need to go there and have a look. Her, her husband and her father are offering it gratis as long as she can take her telescope there and give her some instruction in its use.

Thoughts on the subject??????

Do we need to start a new thread for this one?????

Also anyone for the pony club on the 12th if the weather is good?? I think it is the new moon. I promise to buy nothing new between now and them.

Arthur

Hi Arthur,

I think a new thread is best for that. The idea is a good one, and I think it deserves its own attention.

Personally, the only big question, is that of house-cow landmines!

12th sounds good too, providing nobody makes any new purchases.

Jason, we can meet out the front of the Warnervale aerodrome at 6pm, if you like. I will be driving a gunmetal Pajero, rego AJ30AI. From there, we zip down the F3 for 15-20 minutes, then up to Mangrove Mountain.

I will PM you my mobile number, in case there are any issues.

Sounds very promising Arthur.
How soon can we have a look at the place?
I'm on holidays so could get up there anytime.
Greg.

I am in.
There were some nice steady views from the PC last night.
But it did get dewy from about 10. and the seeing dropped off.
Hopefully if there is a breeze, that could blow it away, otherwise bring dew control gear.

Good news, the field is newly mown.

With sunset at 20:07, I will aim to get there just before 8.
Lets hope for a good night.

Geoff, do we have a key to the amenities yet. Even if only the loo.
