NGC 2174 (Monkey Head) - 15 hours data

Given all the Ha data I think I should have done better on the colour with this one. Anyway this was the best I could do for now but I'll probably go back and try again at some stage.

Cheers

Steve

Hi Steve,

Been waiting fo your colour version, quite like the red used in your image.
It's good to compare with my image from the Canon 1100D. Must be a tricky job to introduce the colour with the HA image, it seems to lose a bit of detail.
Think I'll stick to the DSLR for a while, still have plenty to learn in this area yet.

Cheers,

Justin.

Nicely processed Ha image. That telescope is a good one for imaging with that camera. Do you know the mfg?

Thanks John. I believe it's one of those Russian ones made by Intes.

Thanks and agreed. I plan to see if I can improve the colour.

Thanks Justin. Of course I'm by no means an expert in Ha blending. I plan to try and improve the colour and will re-post if I do.

The colour version doesn't seem to have quite the same punch as the H-alpha...which I like alot.

Nicely done

Nice shot Steve. You probably lost your saturation in the Luminance + Ha combo. It may give detail but it waters down colour saturation.

Greg.

Thanks guys. I agree with your comments. I just posted what I believe is an improved colour version but the Ha is still the winner in terms of detail and contrast.

Lovely Steve! I like the colour version but agree the Ha version has the edge in terms of impact IMO. I know Ha blending is a balancing act but perhaps you can boost the contribution of the faint Ha (adding more Ha signal to the red channel or stretching)?

Cheers, Marcus

Thanks Marcus. I'm going to have to start writing down what I do so I remember. I'm pretty sure I had almost 100% Ha in the red on this try and it was already pretty stretched. That said there's always room for improvement so perhaps I'll experiment again.
