Where are my DVD units?

Hi A couple of days ago I had a computer crash and have nearly recovered, I say nearly because the "my computer" screen does not show either of my 2 DVD players. Any suggestions as to where they may have gone to?

I had a similar problem a few years ago and nothing I tried would show the drive. It was showing in bios, but windows just flat outrefused to recognize it. One day it worked, next it didn't.
I'm a reasonably experienced pc user, no IT guru but can and have solved every problem thrown at me (eventually!), but this one had me stuffed and i was begining to think it was hardware failure but my last resort was to reinstall windows which did the trick.

Probably not the same as your problem but it may be quicker and easier in the end to try a reinstall if you haven't done already.

Have a look in the device manager and do a "scan for new hardware".
Anything connected should show up there.

Disconnect drives, rescan in Windows, connect drives, rescan windows.

Does Windows show them in device mgr even though they dont have a drive letter in explorer?

I am having the same problem

I had a hard drive failure and the computer was repaired under warrenty.
After checking my drives it seems I only have a CD Drive.

This is the info it gives me TSSTCDDVDW TS-L633C ATA device.
Also says Cwindows 32bit system,but My computer is a 64 bit system.
Could this also be a problem

Any help appreciated
