orion flip mirror

does anyone have the orion flip mirror? im thinking about buying one. Do they work with a IS DBK camera? How useful are they with planet imaging with a sct telescope?

I use the Vixen flip mirror body...
What do you have in mind?
If you can accommodate the backfocus requirements (should be OK with a SCT) you could use Al's Reticule to position the planet etc in the middle of the CCD frame, then obviously flip the mirror before exposure..
In our case (spectroscopy) I replaced the flip mirror with a beamsplitter plate so I can focus and guide on axis.

i was planning on putting a flip mirror in my celestron diag that came with the scope. A high/medium powered eyepiece in one end of the flip mirror and my dbk camera in the other end. It will just make it easier centering the planet onto the camera. It can be very frustrating centering a planet with a C14.

I use the 2" Meade flip mirror instead of the diagonal on all my SCT's.
That way you can run two eyepieces or a camera and eyepiece with changing anything.....

I use the 2" Meade Model #647, bought s/h many years ago.
It fitted my 10" and 12" Lx200 and also my new C9.25 and C11.
Great piece of gear!
( Just did a Google search...they seem to be no longer in production! Bumma!)

I like the idea of a flip mirror too... it is a pain unscrewing the diagonal in and trying to screw the camera t-mount on in the dark... so then turn on a torch... lose the dark acustomed eyes for a while.

Been considering one for a while now...

Glad to hear people like them... I am going to have to add it to my Christmas list....

The Meade uses the same thickness and quality mirror they have in the 2" diagonals. The ability to re-adjust and realign the mirror in the housing, is a great advantage.
I can only compare with the Vixen flip mirror system. I use these all the time for guider mods....and can tell you the front surface mirror used in these is very poor. Thin and basic quality. No facility to adjust.
There's no comparison.

Thanks Mark. Reckon they would have to be better than the Vixen.
