NGC 1491 - first in a while

Hi to all

For various reasons I haven't had much to post lately and this is the first image in a while of NGC 1491, an emission nebula in Perseus. The quality of the data wasn't high but I think I salvaged something.

Cheers

Steve

Steve,

It's not a spectacular object but interesting nonetheless and good that you managed to salvage something.

Bill Snyder made some narrowband data of NGC 1491 available for folks on the Yahoo Narrowband group to process. It was for an exercise to demonstrate the wide variety of results you'd expect when different people did the processing and it certainly was successful at showing that!

Cheers,
Rick.

Hi Rick

Actually I think the image turned out quite well in the end. Yes it's probably not a spectacular object but no different than many of the other nebulae scattered around the sky. Of course narrow band shows it in a different light. Ken Crawford has a very nice NB version of it.

Cheers

Steve

Thanks Logan. The weather is certainly not looking promising at the moment.

That's a nice image Steve; did you take that from Canberra? It must be almost on the horizon!

Yeah, and just heard a forecast for 40 days of wet weather ...

Thanks David. No - it would be utterly impossible from Canberra even if we did have decent weather. In common with most of the images I've posted over the last few months this one was taken with Dean Salman's scope in Benson Arizona. Dean has very generously allowed me frequent access to this scope.

Thanks Trevor. You are probably right about the redness although it is a fairly red nebula.
