Jupiter + Ganymede Dec 02 UT

It was a very strange session last night imaging Jupiter. The seeing looked crisp but wavy. I took a lot of video, and all but one resulted in very disappointing final images.

The attached image was the only reasonable result of the set, yet strangely it didn't look that good on live feed, and didn't even have the best quality graph in AS!2 either.

Anyhow, nice to get a little detail on Ganymede. That is a first for me.

If you were up here in Bundaberg Ivan, I'd say it was a 'normal run' lol.

That's rather good Ivan - I'd be very pleased with it!

What scope & camera did you use?

On my monitor there does appear to be a slight stacking artifact to the left & lower of the GRS.

Thanks John, I'm pleased with the result.

This is with a DBK21AU618AS on a C11 + TeleVue 2.5x Powermate.

I'm still working out how to avoid the stacking artifact. It is most obvious in the Blue channel, and limits the amount of wavelet sharpening I can do. Seems worse in poor seeing.

I may need to split the channels and sharpen blue and green less.

had similar seeing a couple of nights ago - looked like it should be OK, but it wouldn't stack properly. regards Ray

Thanks Ray. I still can't work this night out. One thing is becoming a trend though, and that is the seeing is rarely any good after 1am. I'm probably going to waste a lot of time on Saturn early next year!
