Thors Helmet NGC 2359

I started on this 2 nights ago. Capturing as much data as possible before Moon rise.
I'm up to 3 hours of 5 minute subs @ ISO 400
CDS1100D ED80 HEQ5Pro DSS CS3

I probably should be going for this one with the RC8 but I'm too lazy to change scopes at that time of night.

Nice one jjj!

You squeezed out some nice colour in the nebula.

Did you find the modded 1100D helped on this one?

Cheers,

Justin.

Having a cooled camera certainly helped.
I've tried this one with the 550D, only to have to toss many hours of data because of thermal noise.

Nice Shot JJJ. I'll remember never to use the 550 for this one

It's a hard beast to capture well but you are almost there. It's so faint that it will need LONG subs rather than a lot of short ones. 10x5 min subs still gives a 5 min image whereas 5 x10 min subs will give you a 10 min image that will allow you to pull out fainter details than the 5 min subs.
Still it's a good image, JJJ

I'll take that on board Allan, thanks.
It's cloudy tonight, here's hoping tomorrow evening it will clear up.
