Thought I would post some stats that just came through from the Bright Supernova Page for Supernova discoveries made so far in 2012.
BOSS have had a great year - our best so far, in fact we are 5 discoveries ahead of the Lick Observatory Supernova Search (LOSS) - oh wow! We are the 9th leading group in the world and, as far as I am aware only Tim Puckett (POSS) and maybe the Italian Supernova Search Project (ISSP) are the only amateurs in the list below, the rest being professionals like PS1 (Pann Starrs) etc.
So, Stu Parker, Greg Bock, Colin Drescher, Pat Pearl, Brendan Downs (and me) - you have all contributed to this, well done and a big congrats to us! We only need 1 more and we have 50 not out (just listening to the cricket as I write this).
Thanks also to Roger Groom in WA for his following up of some of our suspects. And thanks to all those here who give us great feedback, it is sincerely appreciated. And not forgetting the many professional astronomers who are so willing to literally drop everything when they can to get spectra for our discoveries.
