Thumbs up East Beach Sunrise, Cape Leveque

The sun rises over East Beach at Cape Leveque, creating beautiful shadows in the ripples of the sand dunes. The dawn of another perfect day in the Kimberley.

Our photography group headed down to East Beach early on day 3 of our Kimberley tour, ready for the sunrise. The bright planets Venus and Jupiter met us when we arrived, while the temperature was still quite cool.

It warmed up quickly though, especially as we rushed from ripple to rock, trying to find the best composition while lugging my 7+ kg of camera gear and tripod around.

This image is a 3 frame panorama, taken with a Canon 5D Mk 2 and 17-40mm lens, f/11, ISO640, 1/50s exposures.

Thanks for looking.

Wow - superb photo.

Just curious - how wide were you shooting? And, any cropping? That lens is so sharp. I know f11 will do that, but...

Cheers

Andrew

I had a Graduated ND filter on.

Andrew I was at 17mm, vertical pano. A lot of overlap.

Breathtakingly good. I think this one is one of the best. I love the teal green sky.

Wonderfully sharp and exquisite colour.

A masterpiece.

Greg.

Wonderful image Mike! Very crisp.

The type of image that could grace a coffee table book.

Lovely shot. Beautiful time of day.

Amanda saw your shot in the Ken Duncan gallery the other day. To say she was impressed with the huge print is an understatement.....

Many thanks Greg. The GND filter certainly helped keep the sky in check.

A Kimberley coffee table book, that'd be a fun project

Thanks Rob. Yeh I've heard it's pretty nasty in summer - very hot and humid.
