Howdy all
Well, the John Hunter hospital now has a bit of my liver. Its not exactly a
pain free proceedure. Had my first trip on a hospital bed, it seemed so
odd being wheeled through the corridors of the JHH, they wheeled me to the X ray and imaging dept. They did an ultrasound first to map out a safe entry
point for the biopsy needle (much thicker then a normal needle), put an X
marks the spot on my skin, then a local anasthetic on the area, that stung a
fair bit, then the specialist inserted the needle while the sonographor held
the ultrasound probe, I could see it all on the monitor, the gall bladder
safely out of the way, as the (huge looking) needle is inserted deep into the liver, I didnt feel the needle as it went through the skin but I sure felt it deep in the liver. He withdrew it, they praised me for handling it so well,
breathing deep on command and holding still. As I was wheeled back out on
the bed the pain really kicked in, like a knife stabbing in on each breath.
After being wheeled back into the day stay ward H2, I was given a welcome
dose of morphine, even that tool a while to work, but the pain finally
slowly ebbed away to more tolerable levels. Apparently I bled a bit for the
first hour, then it stopped, they seemed happy with things.
I had to lay flat on my back for 4 hours or so, before being released. Im to
have an adult with me for at least the next 24 hours. So thats a liver
biopsy. Im to see the specialist on May 16 to get the results.
This isnt a proceedue to enjoy, thank goodness its over with now. Im not to exert myself for the next week, so astro imaging may be not possible (and right on new moon too)
