BOSS Supernova 39

Hold everything!!!!

And wait, there's more!!
This is remarkable. In just 21 days since 26 June, Stu Parker has just discovered his 5th new supernova!!!

I have just analysed his last image of NGC309 and sent the report to the Central Bureau to let them know that he has a new possible supernova in that galaxy.

It's a faint one at mag 18.1, but the galaxy is another very pretty face-on spiral in Cetus which rises about 10:30pm, and doesn't pass the meridian until about 5am, so its not a very friendly object for observing unfortunately.

The second observatory on his farm and clear weather are certainly working well to deliver the goods lately.

Congrats yet again Stu!!

Hi All
Yes this little spot showed up in my images from last night.I nearly missed it as it was quite faint. I have attached my conformation image. so it is interesting that there has been 2 other Sn in this little galaxy
-SN1999ge
-SN2008cx

Thanks

Stu

I got my birthday supernova!
Just yesterday on your sn38 thread I pleaded with the BOSS team for one!

Quote:
Now- seeing as you guys have had so many SN catches in the last fortnight, is it too hard a task for you guys to nab me one on my b'day around the corner- you have till friday (I'll extend for w/end).
I didn't realise you guys were thaaaaaaat good.
You guys are scaring me.

And whoa 5 to boot in just 21 days is just mind blowing- you guys are amazing! Congratulations!
I'm going to sleep now with a big smile on my face... I'll print out the pic of the galaxy with the sn- best birthday present ever! Thanks Stu! You do realise I will be calling this one a suzynova . It's justified.

Stu's making this look easy! I reckon anyone could do it .

Seriously, this is amazing. I remember Tom Graig saying a well organised program might discover 'up to a supernova per year'.

Congratulations Stu and the rest of the BOSS team.

Its amazes me that "amatures" are able to do this kind of thing at all let alone with such regularity. I just can't imagine the the feeling you guys must have each time.

Looking forward to reading about no 40.

All the best.

Once again congratulations to Stu and the BOSS team!

At this rate, wagering on the date of the next one might be something Ladbrokes start to offer.

Remarkable.
