Its is a real shame the NBN has turned out to be a joke, And also with the death of iinet, We are left with not much choice of providers and they will all blame the NBN for poor performance which is the truth.

I'm rural and get entry level NBN 150.0 Mbps & 40Gig under $40 per month
with all equipment supplied no charge.

Likely due to safe Liberal seat

WTF!!!!!

I live less than 8kms from Perth CBD. We don't have NBN but are scheduled to get it at some time in the undefined future. At present we get 3Mbps at absolute BEST, and often less than 1Mbps - at busy times as low as 200-400kbps.

The dudes in central Africa must fair better than us!

I love those speed reports of broadband, they don't mean $#1T.

According to all reports S.Korea is #1 for broadband speed

I spent a week in S.Korea recently. Their Internet is great, if you want Korean content, but anything outside S.Korea is absolutely crap.

I get a better "interactive" experience from my home (9/1Mb/s) for global content than I did on a 1Gb/s connection over there.

I think this is one of the things they actually have delivered on, after all they were pretty clear before they were elected that they were going to trash the Labor NBN and replace it with a vastly inferior and only slightly cheaper alternative.

All NBN operations had ceased in WA and most implementation started in the Eastern States. Only Retirement homes and new residences are given priority in Perth

Hi Malcolm,

thanks for that point of view. It may be true but my lad who works for iinet just this week showed me an NBN workplan covering an area which includes where I live. The only uncertainty was that the actual work start date was indeterminate but typically "the wait time is 18 months to 2 years from being given notice".

So it does look like it will happen - just not sure when exactly!

We only get 3G where I am, which isn't so great for us as we're big internet users. Even the 3G service has deteriorated since we started living here. They started doing some work to get 4G in the area back in January, ever since then our 3G has been poor... even better, the coverage maps for 4G in the coming years don't even include us, only the more populous areas to the east and west which already have ADSL.... meh.

I would have to say that the current iteration of the NBN is turning out to be exactly what I expected.

Delivered late
Not as cheap as promised
Performance which does not match the promise.

The only things which currently match the promise so to speak are the fixed wireless and satellite services, which they have left largely alone.

Well I have just had fixed wifi NBN setup up at my remote property and the other night I did a speed test. 42mbit/s download and 18mbit/s on upload. I uploaded an image to my webpage that was 3.68mb in size in 2 seconds flat. Yesterday I did an upload from there to here and it took 42 seconds to upload and download a 15mb file to my computer here. I took 5 minutes or more before.

Price is good per month but not fabulous.

Overall, really impressive and more than I expected. I cannot imagine what fibre to the home must be like. It must be like greased lightning.

My experience so far is beyond what the paper suggests. I might be easily impressed though.

There has been a lot said about which platform we should get, a lot about how long the overall installation is going to take and the cost increase over time for the installation.
Platform wise I don't know or understand the differences but do find it funny that the believe that the current system has gone up in costs by say 30% and the other platform wouldn't have gone up in cost. The installation of one or two fixed wireless towers could take longer than the installation of fibre into every house, even in a small town such as here. The difference in speed is probably a measurable entity but for most people the speed difference between fixed wireless and Fibre to the home is just a click of the mouse anyway and to most almost meaningless. With speeds that fluctuate around 1.5Mbits/sec I can manage to use all the features of my smart TV, browse the net and even manage some remote VB programing and management.
Seems this generation has to have the biggest best and fastest, even if it's the most costly.

Just uploaded last nights subs on the wide field system. 15mb FITS and there were 10 of them. It would normally take about 35 minutes to upload them to home from the remote site. It took just under 5 minutes this morning. That is pretty quick.

Not only that but I am using Wifi (at the remote site) at the moment rather than going through the Ethernet network as that is still connected to the ADSL network. I have only setup one computer at this stage and I connected it via wifi. The Ethernet network is quite a bit faster than the wifi connection. At the end of the day though it will still be bottle necked by the connection here at home which ironically is still ADSL2 and will be for at least 6-12 months until the build is finished in our area. I am told that our home will be connected via copper to the node and if I am lucky the node will be outside my door. I anticipate that I will see increased upload speeds again and latency will diminish to the blink of an eye. I will be more than satisfied with that. I don't download movies or TV programmes so I figure the new connections will be all I will ever need.

Just learnt that the annual Canberra bloodsport is on and Turnbull has challenged for the leadership of the Libs.
Not interested in the politics behind the move itself
but what do you reckon will happen NBN wise if he gets full control as PM
or if he loses and we get a different communications minister ( as he has now resigned that portfolio )????
