Medium format fun

Crevices and capillaries in golden sand caused by outgoing tides. Taken shortly after the sun had risen.

This was from the Easter long weekend when Chris and I headed out to the coast.

My 120 back with Velvia 50 in it failed; it wouldn't advance past the first frame. So, I shot with a back that had Astia 100F, instead. Not the best landscape film available; it's a low contrast film designed for nailing skin tones, but, can be used for landscapes.

Note: processing involved slight contrast enhancement. Otherwise, it's how it came out of my scanner. Downsampled for web consumption from about 66 megapixels.

Yep, the sand is a wonderful colour on this beach.

Glad to see you were also affected by the flare, Chris!

I think my gift to myself in the next two weeks will be the 50mm floating element lens. Then, the week after that, the 180mm portrait lens.

Although, they can be had for about a third to half of the price.

The floating element lets you obtain critical focus when focusing very closely. This lens focuses as close as 4.06 cm.
