Mars Saturn April 2nd UT

Hi
the high level winds backed off below 50 kts last night and the local seeing was OK when the clouds allowed - nothing special, but good enough to image.
Mars seeing was fair overall, with a lack of finest detail being the main problem - lots of magnificent clouds on the planet though.
Seeing had fallen off a bit for Saturn and this image was taken at about f22 to bump up the capture rate.
Stacked in AS!2 - typically 20% on Mars and 35% on Saturn, both with 1.5 drizzle stacking. sharpened in AS!2 with additional light VanCittert deconvolution + median filter in IRIS and scaling and colour touchup in GIMP. Colour balance for Saturn via "white" function in IRIS operating on a section of B ring.
thanks for looking. Regards ray

Nice images Ray.

I had a go at Mars last night too. I thought the seeing was a bit strange, coming and going, but it's hard to tell with this face of Mars. Not a lot of detail to see on the live feed.

Was pleased to see some detail in the polar cap, as you have captured here. Also, as you say, lot's of clouds over those volcanoes.

I was about to look at Saturn, when the clouds rolled in. I gave up waiting for a break at about 11:30, so thanks for showing me what I missed out on!

thanks Ivan - yes "a bit strange" describes it well, it was certainly variable. Going to try tonight? Regards Ray

Yes Ray, I'll have another go tonight. Hopefully will get Saturn as well.

Have already grabbed some Venus video, but the seeing was very poor. It took an even sharper dive at about 6pm. I reckon from the smell of grilling lamb chops , it coincided with my neighbour starting his BBQ!
