MEADE 16 inch Newtonian OTA - $400

Hey again Here is the ad!

It was bought from Cris Ellis, he runs an astronomy business, I think it's called Astronomy Alive.

When I bought it off him he had dropped the price to $700, so I thought I would offer it for $400, which seems like a good deal to me.

Also he had said in his ad that it should be realuminised within 5 years, so I guess it is coming up on that, I don't know if the fact that it's never been used would have a bearing on that.

It has been sitting in a garage (covered always) for the entire time, used about 3 or 4 times.

Anyway here is the specs he provided:

---

Meade Newtonian 16inch (406mm) f4.5 Reflecting telescope OTA
Telescope Optical Tube Assembly only
Being passed on for an estate (unused for 10 years)
Circa 1992 - when Meade telescopes were made in the USA, and Meade was a premium telescope and highly sought after
Premium quality system - 406mm (16 inch) aperture
f4.5 Newtonian - 1820mm Focal length
Primary mirror condition - Aluminised surface is slightly worn in small patches, and should be premium realuminised (Al & SiO2 overcoated) within 5 years.

He also said:

This telescope weighs a lot, it is nearly 6 feet tall and weighs probably around 50 Kg.

You wouldn't operate it on any equatorial mount other than something a lot bigger than an EQ6.

I recommend you put it on a Dob box, plans for Dob boxes are all over the internet.

The mirror cell is the standard Meade unit that was produced for this telescope. It is a 9 point cell system.

The primary is able to be stripped and recoated including SiO2 (using unique single optic process, NOT using multiple optics in the tank at the one time) at cost for $400, however a shipping box would need to be made.

Secondary does not need realuminising. Dielectric coating is unavailable in Australia, and is not offered for this system (it is also totally unsuitable for this system, Dielectric coating is for 90 degree diagonals like William Optics excellent units)

---------------------------------

Okay that's it! I am offering it for $400.

The scope is in Ivanhoe, Melbourne.

Thanks

edit: Just to be clear, those specs and technical info were from the original ad, I copied and pasted them from the person who sold the scope to me originally (thanks very much to the person who found them!).

So I won't understnd any followup questions, me just point tube at sky.

Thx
