The Running Man - NGC 1977

Last night:

Clear skies -
No wind -
Temperature - 28 degrees

I can never get all these three working together.

Anyways, I thought I would try imaging Arnold Schwarzenegger. I didn't really want to setup as I knew I would probably be wasting my time imaging due to the high temperature. However, given it's expected to be cloudy over the coming days, I forced myself to go outside.

Details
Scope: 8" Newt
Mount: EQ6
Camera: unmodded canon 400D
ISO800
Exposure: 9x8mins (including darks* and flats)

Picture here

Yes, noise still an issue but not surprising given the temperature and limited number of subs. Also some elongated stars.

*I took 5 darks but DSS only recognised 3. All darks appeared to be fine. Has anybody had this problem??

A great result Dan, nice focus for a Newt showing some fine whispy dust in there ! Cool Image.

Nice result, Dan. Well defined stars and and nebulosity with only a little noise in the faint background areas. Interestingly there's a slight pink tinge not only at the top which is presumably the outskirts of M43/M42, but also at the bottom edge too.

Thanks Bob. The Astronomy Tools Actions worked well here considering the conditions.

Cheers. Yeah I think that pink/red is actually artifact, at least the stuff down the bottom. I had a little trouble processing it out. This is combination of having a limited total exposure time and using a light pollution filter.

Cheers. Yeah I think that pink/red is actually artifact, at least the stuff down the bottom. Probably stretched it a bit too far. I had a little trouble processing it out. This is combination of having a limited total exposure time and using a light pollution filter.

Hi Dan

Loved your image. I'm obsessing with M42 at the moment, so NGC 1977 always seems to get a look in.

Cheers Petra d.
