March AS&T
Just read the new issue on the train this morning. It's not too bad - I enjoyed the articles on the objects in the Vela/Carina region - I'm doing a bit of observing in that direction at the moment.
One strange thing - Saturns moons looked rather odd in the finder chart ;-)

yeh I picked it up the other day, have given it the once through but not in any detail yet.
Looks like a pretty good issue.. I do wish there wasn't so much stuff copied from the US, but as long as there's enough local content it's looking good.

Got mine on monday and as I have said in the AO forums, I don't mind a few double articles here and then but did they have to use the same cover as well? At least if the cover design is different it doesn't alert you straight away that 60% of the mag is still US content. But I do think the Aussie articles are great, it's good having another take on australian astronomy and to seem them cover things that S&S don't and vice versa. I liked the article about why aussie skies are the best to observe under. Southern hemisphere rules!!!

Ah, I haven't subscribed to the international edition (US?) for several years. I wasn't aware they were duplicating material.

There's certainly no intention to reduce the amount of local content in each month's AS&T.
S&T subscribers will always see some articles twice, but as S&T is no longer in the newsagencies here, most people are only seeing the selected articles once.

I noticed that the US version is as rare as rocking horse poo.!!
I was going to subscribe to that, but decided on the Aust version subscription. A good move in hindsight I reckon

Hello there Greg, I wasn't aware that the US S&T wasn't being sold at the newsagents anymore as I'm still a subscriber to the US mag so I haven't checked out the newstands at all. I guess I'm one of the (silly) few that are seeing double
Just one question to you Greg, do you think will there be a move sometime in the future to bring in more australian and nz content to bring the balance to at least 50%?

I have a subcription to the US version but have been picking up a copy of AS&T at a local news agent...
While it is very similar I think I like the AS&T better...

I have been a bit slow on this Mag, but i did not like how this was a mix up.
Two sets of Jupiter's moons charts. No Saturn's Moons.
Hope the person on the QC is on top of it next time
I'll still buy the mag, I liked it, and its monthly

The new S&S is actually the Mar/Apr edition.. They slipped on the Jan/Feb and in the magazine it says that they'll credit your subscription with 1 free issue.
I'm not happy it was late either, but i've had a good read through the Mar/Apr and it is a good issue, some good stuff to read.
I just hope it comes out regularly now..
The AS&T is out like clockwork, which is great.. But I suppose because they borrow 60% of content from the US, there's not as much for them to do in getting it ready for the printer.

Had a good read through AS&T last night.. some good information in there. I like the tour of carina and the argo navis region, and the article about impact craters in Australia was very good.
and of course the stuff on mars and titan was interesting.
I don't like how the binoviewer comparison is so US-based though, even all the prices are in US dollars. I know it probably came from the US S&T, but I would've liked to see it more relevant for aussies. Having said that, i'm sure it'd end up cheaper to buy them from overseas unless you get the Saxon brand ones or something.

Yes, the binoviewer "review" was a total letdown. I was actually looking forward to it. The Saxon ones are the only ones you see advertised here, and it wasn't even on the list. I did not realise that the prices were in $US ... but now that you mention it I found the exact same article in the US S&T, ... and I also found out that my uni subscribes to S&T, which means free access to all issues!
