Finding the way home...

As the Earth turns, a lone driver heads off into the distance looking for a way home...

Captured at IISAC2011 using a Canon 40D, 10-22mm lens @10mm, f/3.5, 30s exposures @ ISO1600. Approx 3 hours worth of exposures were combined using StarStax, with final processing in Photoshop.

More from IISAC2011 will be coming soon!

Wow, that's spectacular. I really like the light trail from the car. I bet this would look fantastic as a large pearl/glossy print.

Thanks guys, appreciate the comments and feedback.

I love an extra dollop of saturation on my images and star trails really work well for that.

The light from the car turned out to be a bonus, that's for sure. It zooms past in 3 frames in the timelapse and can barely be noticed, but really adds to the scene in the star trails stack. It wouldn't be the same image without it.

I almost called the image "Into the Vortex".

Thanks again for your comments.

Now there's an idea for the Malins... star trails of the SCP with someone doing circle work in the foreground.

Nicely done Mike. I always advise people going into astrophotography to start with star trails and this would be a great example to live up to.

Cheers

Thanks Steve, and I agree - star trails are a great way to use existing gear to take beautiful astronomical images.
